John Overton is President of the Florida Health Care Association and Administrator of the Pines of Sarasota. Pamela Overton, RN, is the South Florida Regional Nurse Consultant for Alterra Assisted Living Facilities.
Convention Award Winners
Congratulations to FANA Nurse Assistant of the Year, Maria Loredo, CNA, the Grand Court of Winter Haven. Nominees for the award included Debbie Shepard, CNA, IHS of Oakbridge, Polk Co.; Pam Owens, CNA, Tandem of Winter Haven, Polk Co.; Tisha Bascom, CNA, Leesburg RMC, Lake Co.; Barry O'Hare, CNA Ultimate Home Care, Pinellas Co.; and Barbara Williams, CNA, Lake Placid Health Care of Highlands Co.
Congratulations also to our Career Nurse Assistant of the Year, Kathy Avinger, CNA of the Meadows at Garden Grove, Winter Haven. Kathy began her career 31 years ago and has been at her present employment for 10 years. Kathy is delighted to be packing her bags for a weekend cruise presented by her employers' corporate office, Liberty Health Care, in honor of her being named FANA's Career Nurse Assistant! FANA is proud and pleased to see such a response to recognize the outstanding job of this CNA!
Other convention awards: Julie Parker, CNA Hope Hospice of Lee County took first place in the Poster Contest. Membership Awards went to Carl Morrison, Adm, Mariner of Orange City for 27 new members: Mavis Layne, CNA, Floridean Nursing Home, Dade County for 9 new members, and Karen Thomas, CNA, Lake Placid H.C. for 5 new members.
